Description

Pure Squid Meal is made from the blanket and visors of the Giant Squid.  It is a powerful attractant and source of micro ingredients such as cholesterol.  Widely used in pet food and aquaculture.

Squids are common to many areas (North Atlantic, Mediterranean, etc.) and are often available in excess of the human demand. The excess squid can be processed to produce squid meal and squid oil.

The Squid meal is an excellent supplemental source of crude protein that equals or exceeds that of fish meal in feeding applications.

Poultry
In a growth trial (1 to 48-days) with chicks squid meal based diet was found to out perform fish meal and meat and bone meal based diets (Hulan et al., 1979).

Fish
In trials with gilthead seabream squid meal was found to be an excellent supplemental protein source (Fernandez-Palacios et al., 1996).

Crustaceans
Squid meal was found to be a good source of supplemental protein for prawns (Lim et al., 1978), (Casib, 1982; Marzuqi et al., 1992). When shrimp were fed diets containing squid meal feed conversion and gain was increased (Cruz-Suarez et al., 1992).
